FAQ

How to use the calendar, read historical records and contribute to the project.

How do I add the calendar to my home screen?

On iPhone, open the calendar in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. If an Open as Web App switch appears, leave it enabled. On Android and desktop, use the browser menu’s app installation option. If an old shortcut opens in the browser, add it again. Loading events requires an internet connection.

Why does the calendar show this year while events have different years?

The grid follows the weekdays of the current year and automatically uses the new year when it arrives. A selected day brings together historical events with that day and month from different years. The full date beside the category belongs to the event; the grid's year does not limit the events shown.

Where are the events from February 29?

When historical events exist on February 29, its cell appears in the February grid every year. In a non-leap year a soft background distinguishes it; its position does not indicate a weekday in the current year. Filters may hide events without removing the date.

What do the colored squares mean?

Each square represents an event; its color and fill indicate the category. A day cell shows at most six squares. Select the date to see its full event list. Orange marks the selected day. Today has a light border when another date is selected.

How do categories and filters work?

Open the filter icon in the top bar. Selecting several categories shows events in any of them. Landmarks only further restricts the selection to key events. With no categories selected, all categories are included. An orange filter icon indicates active restrictions, which also apply to search.

Where are an event's description, sources and images?

Open the event title. On a phone it opens a separate reader page; on desktop the details appear beside the calendar. Sources and images appear when the record includes them. Back returns to your previous day list or search results.

How do I switch languages?

The globe switches directly between English and Russian. An event opens its verified translation when available, or the calendar on that date otherwise. About, Support and FAQ switch to the same page in the other language; Back returns to the original view.

How can I check facts or suggest a correction?

Read the sources on the event page. To report an error or suggest a new record, contact the project using the links below. Include the date, a description and primary sources.

How does scrolling work?

When there is enough space, the navigation bar and calendar stay in place. Only events, search results or the article scroll, and only when they overflow. On a phone, an article opens without the calendar. Short viewports and enlarged text use whole-page scrolling to keep the content readable.
