🕳️ Bitfinex Hacked: 119,754 BTC Stolen

On August 2, 2016, a hacker used Bitfinex's own private keys to steal 119,754 BTC directly from its multisig wallets. The loss was socialized across all customer accounts — the largest exchange theft at the time and a lesson in third-party custody risk.
