On July 21, 2016, in light of the completed Ethereum hard fork, Vice published an article "Why Ethereum Succeeded Where Bitcoin Failed".
The main argument was the author's admiration for how quickly Vitalik managed to unite the community and pull off a hard fork to roll back The DAO developers' error and return the money lost by the Ethereum Foundation's leadership.
Ethereum's success was contrasted with Bitcoin's protracted "block size war," where the community split into two camps and was unable to reach a consensus for over a year.
The moral of the story is actually different: decision-making and execution in centralized systems are much simpler and faster than in decentralized ones.
