🏛️ The cypherpunks mailing list is founded (~ September 1992)

In September 1992, Eric Hughes, John Gilmore and Timothy May launch the cypherpunks mailing list, grown out of informal Bay Area meetings of like-minded cryptographers (the list ran on Gilmore's own server, toad.com). At those same meetings Judith Milhon first jokingly dubbed the group "cypherpunks." The exact founding day is undocumented; the earliest message surviving in the public archive is dated September 21, 1992. A fuller account of this era is told in "The Genesis Files": https://21ideas.org/en/gf/
